The State of Alabama

Archives and History Building
The State of Alabama

This 50,000 square feet addition to The State of Alabama's Archives and History Building was constructed in Montgomery, Alabama. Construction included deep site excavation with soil retention systems used to protect existing utilities and streets. Underground street borings (2 each) were required to bring service from new central utility plant to building addition. Drilled pier foundations supported the 5-level cast in place concrete structure. The exterior skin was a stucco and plaster system to match existing finishes. The addition included much needed archive storage space, auditorium, reference/research space, and administration areas. The exterior improvements included a scaled replica map of Alabama showing the contours of the state with accurate flow of rivers throughout Alabama.
