CarMax – The Automotive Superstore

CarMax, the largest used-car retailer in the U. S., worked with JESCO to construct this new facility under an aggressive five month schedule. This facility is built upon a green field of approximately six acres which was at a low elevation along a creek. Between 50,000 and 60,000 cubic yards of fill material was brought in to raise the nearly four acre site by as much as ten feet.

The site work included demolition, storm water piping, sanitary sewer, imported fill, site concrete paving, ornamental fencing, masonry site walls, guard railing, asphalt paving, Delta gates (lots), landscaping and irrigation, Parking lot lighting, Tank and Veeder-Root Fueling system, one hundred fifty space sales lot, and a sixty space customer lot. The 8,500 square foot building construction consisted of shallow foundations, masonry and steel supported structure with a TPO roofing system. The exterior consisted of Insulation-filled Masonry painted with a Conpro elastomeric coating, Aluminum framed window walls, metal panels, Coiling doors and aluminum storefront. The interior consisted of ceramic flooring, epoxy coated flooring, sheet rock walls, millwork and acoustical ceilings. A control and power integration system (CPI) was installed which provided integration of all building electrical switchgear, electrical controls and energy management systems (EMS). TVSS system was included in the CPI base system. Systems controled/monitored were lot gates, exterior lighting, doors, cameras, HVAC, fueling system, etc.
